Could not find file ‘C:WINDOWSsystem32Application.ico’

Some users may see the error “Could not find file ‘C:WINDOWS\system32\Application.ico'” attributed to the Killer Network Manager even after uninstalling the Killer Network Manager and installing the Killer Control Center. This error is due to a shortcut remaining in the startup folder that is now pointing to an icon that has been removed.

This issue can be resolved by removing the leftover shortcut from the common startup folder. You can do this by following these steps:

  1. Press and hold the Windows Key then tap the R button to bring up the Run command.
  2. Type or paste shell:common startup and press Enter. This will bring up the common startup folder.
  3. Look for anything with “Killer” in that folder. Delete any such entries. The Killer Control Center will not put entries into this folder, so any “Killer” named entries are remnants from previous installations and should be removed.
